This professional development training is crucial in helping facilitate meaningful programming, reflections, and discussions.

Willing to learn and have the desire to keep on learning.  Inspire travelers and help them fall in love with their destination by immersing them in the local culture and exposing them to true real-life experiences. Customer Service

  • Execute role as Staff with the highest level of customer service and participant care

  • Contact program participants before the start of the program to make personal connections and answer questions

  • Capture group photos, send them to staff, and prepare weekly updates for participant families

  • Assist participants on arrival/departure day at the airport

  • Ensure participants are following program safety guidelines; identify situations where special medical attention is necessary

Travel Community

  • Serve as a role model for participants as a Jewish adult

  • Assist with daily logistical needs (including but not limited to rooming assignments/ checks, supporting medical concerns, programming logistics, helping participants with unique dietary needs, etc.)

  • Maintain community atmosphere (orderliness, timeliness, organization, lost-and-found, etc.)

  • Elevate any mental, social, or medical emergencies to field supervisors or site staff.

  • Provide comfort, support, and compassion for all participants during the program duration

  • Ensure that the program participants are forming a socially cohesive group while working to discourage cliques and address any cases of social alienation

 

Programming

  • Translate past Jewish experiences into learning opportunities for participants and serve as an informal resource for Jewish programming

  • Help facilitate Shabbat services and Shabbat programming for participants

  • Facilitate, icebreakers, and other various aspects of building communal life

 

Staff Community

  • Participate in staff training

  • Collaborate with fellow trip staff before the start of the program while developing cohesive group training techniques

  • Participate in all full staff meetings, training, professional development, and team-building activities

The Recruiter role met with key community organizations to partner with for recruitment and proactively conducts outreach to individuals and organizations to recruit Jewish teens to attend existing programs for the summer.  Worked directly with the Director of Teen Travel and International Engagement - USY, regional directors, and local congregations to recruit teens to participate in this memorable Jewish summer experience.   

  • Worked with the Director of Teen Travel and International Engagement to gain a comprehensive understanding of USY Summer Programs and curate lists of potential participants

  • Recruited Jewish teens to attend 4 USY summer programs (domestic, European, and Israel programs)

  • Meet with key community organizations to partner with for recruitment (i.e. local synagogues, day schools, federations, etc.)

  • Hold parlor meetings for interested families to learn more about the programs

  • Attend local programs for recruitment

  • Contact a couple hundred teens/families that were eligible for the programs
