Every American, history, and politics buff should visit the capital to see it all in action. I've gone to visit the capital a handful of times, mostly to lobby. This means discussing with members of Congress and others in the government about issues concerning American society. Visiting the Library of Congress is incredibly cool and for the obvious reason is under strict security. The President is also inaugurated at the Capitol Building here every four years. The President will then move to The White House. This is the official residence and workplace building for them and was completed in 1800. Every president since John Adams has resided and worked here. It looks tiny in person compared to what you see on TV.
While visiting the County's capital you'll want to visit The Lincoln Memorial. The site where M.L.K "I have a dream" speech took place. It is just one of the many monuments, this one showcases a huge honest Abe. From The Lincoln Memorial, you'll be able to see across the grassy field of the National Mall to the Washington Monument, it's the world's tallest stone building. You can also see and walk to The World War Two monument, dedicated to those who fought in WWII. You'll notice in this city, there are no skyscrapers comparable to other cities across the country like New York City. It is a very walkable city but I have also enjoyed getting around with a duck tour so you can see the city by land and water. How cool would it be to have a vehicle like this for yourself to get around all the time? Another Statue to visit is Albert Einstein. In his hand, he holds paper with mathematics summarizing his most important scientific contributions. If you are visiting the last week of March into the first week of April you'll be able to experience Cherry Blossoms blooming. They smell amazing and are beautiful. The cherry trees were a gift of friendship from Japan in 1912.
There are many museums to visit in DC but I want to highlight one- The US Holocaust Memorial Museum. You'll need to be in the right mindsight while visiting. This was the first museum I've been to on the topic of the Holocaust. It's a powerful museum experience. You enter with an identification card of information and can pretend to be a person who lived through this period of history. Each floor you get more information on the person and by the end of your tour of the museum you find out the fate of this person. The exhibits take you through the history of Nazis, ghettos, and the Final Solution. I wouldn't suggest this museum to anyone younger than high school as the subject is heavy and the museum does have a graphic collection. This museum is free to visit.
I loved shopping in Georgetown. I'm sure you know of Georgetown cupcakes and although any bakery can be tasty I'd suggest enjoying some sweet treats from Baked and Wired.
Although I'm not the biggest sports fan out there and haven't ever been just loyal to one sports team, I found attending Nationals baseball games to be patriotic and fun. TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME! How else do you plan to be Patriotic in the capital? If you've been what other ways do you like showing your Patriotism? That is all for now!
